October 13, 2009: Bloomingdales Helps DC Celebrate 75 Years

DC Comics has teamed with Bloomingdales in the U.S. to begin celebrating the company's 75th anniversary by unveiling a collection of superhero-inspired clothing and accessories by such designers as Psycho Bunny, Jack Spade and John Varvatos.

The men's collection includes T-shirts, socks, scarves and bags, ties, cufflinks, pocket squares and small leather goods. Bloomingdale's Young World department will also carry limited DC Comics-inspired products, including Ts and hoodies, during the holiday season. The collection ranges from $35 to $225, and will be available in all stores that carry men's and children's as well as on bloomingdales.com.

The New York Times reports that the fun begins on Wednesday with a "New York Nights" cocktail bash at Bloomingdale's around the country, including the Men's Store at the flagship on 59th street and Third Avenue in Manhattan.

Be there from 6 to 8 p.m. to whet your whistle and see the merch, which includes everything from t-shirts, socks and scarves to tote bags, wallets, ties and cuff links (thankfully, no leotards). The gear will be available through the holiday season. I have my eye on a t-shirt emblazoned with the Justice League, as drawn by the legendary comic book artist George Perez. Some other favorites are the Jack Spade "Robin" wallet ($80), the Superman and Batman cuff links ($125 a pair) and some super socks, including the Flash, of course ($30 a pair). Unfortunately, neither the Batman scarf ($225), the All-Star Comics t-shirt ($62) nor the Superman tee ($38) include the hunky model above, so maybe villainy wins the day after all.

Check out the emerging line of Bloomingdale's exclusive DC Comics T-Shirts now available at Bloomingdale's website.
