June 10, 2009: Music, Tribute Films and More at Superman Celebration
Music, tribute films, television and movie showings: All part of entertainment at Superman CelebrationIn addition to contests, games and dozens of unique activities, Superman Celebration attendees may also take a break to sit down and enjoy a variety of entertainment options. The 31st annual Celebration will be held in Metropolis on June 11-14.
Free musical entertainment on Superman Square will include gospel music by Cross Harmony and the Kingsmen at 6:15 p.m. Thursday evening; the Scott Air Force Band, Hot Brass at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Sunday; and the Colgate Country Showdown at 5 p.m. Saturday night.
Merle Haggard and Shooters Jennings will perform in an outdoor concert at Harrah's at 8 p.m. Saturday night. Admission will be charged for this concert.
On Friday evening, a tribute to Noel Neill will be held at 7 p.m. at the Artists Alley on Market St. Neill will also participate in a tribute to George Reeves and share many of her fond memories of working with the man who was so well known for his portrayal of Superman. She will speak about The Adventures of Superman prior to the showing of her four favorite episodes. This is a free event.
As it is the 50th anniversary of the death of George Reeves, fans will pay tribute to him again on Saturday evening. Tim Brown of Inked Monkey Productions will show a short tribute film to Reeves at 7pm at the Artist Alley. Then Beverly Washburn will introduce the uncut version of the movie, Superman and the Mole Men. Washburn was a child actor in this movie. There will be a $5 admission fee for this event at the Artist Alley.

Metropolis, Illinois is the only town with the same name as the fictional city made famous in comic books. It is located at the southern tip of Metropolis where the Ohio River meets Paducah, Ky.
