March 25, 2009: Jerry Siegel "History of Invulnerability" Stage Production

While it's still over a year away, a new play about Superman's co-creator, Jerry Siegel will be playing at the Tony Award winning Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park from April 3, 2010.

THE HISTORY OF INVULNERABILITY
By David Bar Katz
April 3 - May 2, 2010

In the early 1940s, there was one Jew powerful enough to single-handedly challenge the Nazis: Kal El, a.k.a. Superman. This is the story of Superman creator Jerry Siegel's tumultuous relationship with his legendary comic-book character, and of a little boy in Birkenau who believes he will survive because Superman is on his way to liberate the camp.

Superman - the man of steel - is invulnerable. Jerry Siegel - the creator of Superman - was far more vulnerable. Siegel was one of a number of Jews who created the cartoon superheroes of the 1930s and 40s in response to the rise of Nazi Germany. Siegel's own tumultuous story intertwines with the tragic events of a world on the edge, a place where even Superman has his limits. A remarkable new play about fantasy and the reality of the 20th century.
