March 12, 2009: Neal Bailey in Bluewater Comics

Hey, all! Neal here with some not-quite-Superman, but Superman Homepage related business.

Long time readers will know that it's long been my steady goal and hope to get into comics and the novel business. Recently, Darren Davis of Bluewater comics contracted me to create "Female Force," a series of biographical comics about strong women in politics. The first two are out today, Hillary Clinton, and Sarah Palin, and will be followed by Michelle Obama and Caroline Kennedy.

Chances are good they're not what you think they are. I put myself physically into the narrative, and in typical Smallville style, banter with the reader about the commonalities of principle that these public and famous figures share with common people. I tried to be as unbiased and creative as I could be, and the end result makes me giggle, so I hope it'll do the same for you. It's comedy and information and a lot of fourth wall fun.

The books have gotten an insane publicity kick, the likes of which I neither intended nor expected, appearing on CNN, MSNBC, and in multiple newspapers. Rachel frickin' Maddow gave them a look! I do believe I am hallucinating this. If I am, someone pinch me. Tonight at 10.00pm EST, my editor will appear on Greta Van Susteren for the books.

Check the CNN mention out:

I am loathe to plug my own work given that you guys come here for Superman, and feel bad doing it, so beyond the Bailey Planet video, this is likely the first and last you'll hear about this. I just figured, since a lot of you fine folk have followed me through 700 reviews and articles and beyond, you might want the chance to see my first work in print, and if so, bless your ever-lovin' hearts. Even if not. Or if you're that strange breed who will buy it to hate it, I'll still sign for you.

If your local comic shop doesn't have a copy and you want one, shoot me an email. The books will be put into a trade paperback this coming September with all four. If you want a signed copy, my current plans are to hit the Emerald City Comic-Con, San Diego, and perhaps more, depending on how the books pan out, of I will gladly honor any mail requests.

You all did this for me, and this isn't a plug so much as it is a letter of thanks and gratitude for giving me the faith and courage to continue writing and start getting out there, at long last. A thousand thanks.
