March 17, 2008: Vintage Superman Comes to Chicago TV
Chicago TV Station Brings Vintage Superman to Most in Second City: Satellite Providers Have Yet to Pick up New StationBy Barry Freiman Syndicated TV stations with classic television have largely gone the way of the Dodo but for the past few years, America's Second City, Chicago, has had WWME-TV, also known as Me-TV whose programming rivals Nick at Nite and TV Land. Fortune smiles on Chicago again as the success of WWME's Me-TV programming has led to the creation of a new channel, WMEU-TV, or Me-Too.
Among the programming on the new Me-Too is the 1950's classic George Reeves series "The Adventures of Superman" -- 2 episodes airing every Sunday in a weekly super-hero block that also includes the 1960's "Batman" series, the short-lived "Green Hornet", "The Greatest American Hero", "Buck Rogers", and "The Incredible Hulk". Also on Sunday mornings, Me-Too has an hour block of early morning cartoons which may include several episodes of the original 1940's "Superman" cartoons (as Me-TV has shown some of these "Superman" cartoons in the past during similar cartoon blocks).
Chicago residents can watch Me-Too on Broadcast channel 48. It is also going to be shown on cable provided by companies Comcast, RCN, and Wow Cable Me-Too will go on the air sometime on or prior to April 1, 2008. It will also be available for free on WCIU-DT 26.3, WCIU's digital station.
If you have Direct TV (as I do) or the Dish Network, unfortunately neither of those systems currently plans to carry Me-Too (though they do carry the original Me-TV station). Chicago residents who want to notify Direct TV and Dish Network of their desire to have the all-new Me-Too added to their channel lineup can email metoo@wclu.com. In the email, include your name, city, and satellite provider information. The station is collecting the requests to provide to Direct TV and Dish Network as part of their continuing effort to get these providers to pick up the new station.
