October 9, 2008: Sarah Douglas Says Chris Reeve Was Difficult to Work With
The Telegraph.co.uk reports that Sarah Douglas, who played Ursa in "Superman: The Movie" and "Superman II", was quoted as saying that Christopher Reeve was "difficult" and "caught up in his own image" during the filming of the two movies.
- "I suffered a lot of back injuries on Superman and could only work for about an hour on the wires during my flying scenes and then had to have an hour off. And Christopher didn't take too kindly to the fact that this slowed things down so it was a bit tricky.
"At the beginning he was a very fresh-faced young American and at the end it was difficult. He definitely got caught up with his own Superman image."
The actress claims that when she finally revealed her feelings to co-star [Margot] Kidder, she replied: "Oh he was a right pain."
Douglas added: "I was so relived that somebody else had found him tricky. You don't want to speak ill of someone who has had a terrible accident. But my understanding is that after the injury everybody said he was a changed man and became an incredibly humble and generous guy."
- Chris and I were just buddies on the set and had no friendship off, but it was more to do with the fact that we were just mates on the set... just never friends in the way I hit it off with other cast members.
I think it is also important to point out that my injuries whilst flying caused me a lot of pain and I was possibly very cranky and not much fun for him to be around!!!
Nothing controversial and certainly no animosity... he is still the very best Superman ever!
