Tangent: Superman's Reign #8

September 10, 2008: Wes Craig Talks "Tangent: Superman's Reign"

Wes Craig is the artist taking over "Tangent: Superman's Reign" from Jama Igle (who has moved on to draw "Supergirl"), and Comicon's The Pulse caught up with Wes to ask him about his work on the series. Here's an excerpt from the interview...

Q: Superman is an instantly recognizable iconic figure, what kind of intimidation factors do you feel when you're staring at that blank page knowing the expects involved with any Superman comic?

CRAIG: I thought I might feel that way when it came time to draw him but that intimidation factor never hit. I love this character and I have it very clear in my mind what he looks like so I just went ahead and DID it. If you want to be a productive artist in comics you don't really have time for all that, you just have to dive in, y'know?

Q: Who are some of the Superman artists of times past that influenced the way you view and regard the character now?

CRAIG: My biggest influences are The Fleischer cartoons, Alex Ross, Jack Kirby, and Frank Quietly. I dunno, I see him as tougher, closer to the original version that he's generally been portrayed. Not so much that he's invincible, but more that he's insanely, ludicrously tough!

Wes Craig takes over from Jamal Igle with issue #8, scheduled to ship in October.
