Pa Kent

June 15, 2008: Pa Kent Named Best Comic Book Dad

Newsarama.com has published their Top 10 list of Best Comic Book Dads in honor of Father's Day.

Though it should come as no surprise to Superman fans, the #1 ranked best Dad in comics is Pa Kent. Here's what the list had to say about Jonathan Kent:

Pa Kent remains the Gold Standard for Comic Dads. Pa Kent represents the notion of nurture-over-nature, as his (and Ma's) warmth and strong values serve as the strongest influence on the worldview of Superman. It's accurate to say that Pa Kent is iconic in his own right; the character has been judged worthy to appear in nearly every iteration of Superman media, including the serials, the first episode of the '50s series, Superboy, the brief '80s cartoon, Lois and Clark, and obviously the first Reeve film and Smallville. His gentle nature, constant optimism, and wisdom make him the only choice for #1 on our list of the Best Dads.

That's not to mention Pa Kent's inclusion in "Superman: The Animated Series", "Justice League", and "Justice League Unlimited", and a cameo or two in episodes of the "Super Friends". Plus, when it comes to Superboy, Pa shows up in both his 60's Filmation adventures and his 80s/90s live-action syndicated adventures.
