Comic-Con

July 29, 2007: SDCC News - “Smallville”, Screening, Q&A Panel, and New Action Figures

Another day of San Diego Comic Con saw for "Smallville" fans...

The "Smallville" Screening and Q&A panel saw Rich Sands (from TV Guide) present a clip of Season 6 highlights, with some Season 7 snippets. While the Q&A panel saw "Smallville" creators Al Gough and Miles Millar, Phillip Morris (Martian Manhunter), Justin Hartley (Oliver Queen), Erica Durance (Lois Lane), and the introducing of Laura Vandervoort as Supergirl.

A few teasers were dropped. Dean Cain will appear in the fourth episode of the season (met with applause) as a villain (met with boos). The Justice League will return with Green Arrow's reappearance late in the season. Lois will take her place at the Daily Planet moving toward her role as an investigative reporter. And the much publicised emergence of Kara Zor-El will start with the season and last throughout. Both she and Jon Jones will play large parts in the first few episodes of the season.

Gough and Millar went on to say that Kara arrived on earth in the same meteor shower that Clark did, but she remained in stasis at the bottom of the river so, even though she was older than Clark/Kal-El when they left Krypton, she will only be 19 in the show. She'll have powers that Clark does not, like flying, and will be able to share El family "secrets" and facts about the destruction of Krypton with Clark. When asked if Clark will fly this season, Gough and Millar only hinted that Kara will be trying to teach him how to fly, but that doesn't mean he's going to be good at it.

Dean Cain's appearance in Season 7 of "Smallville" was confirmed, with news that Dean will be playing a bad guy.

Meanwhile, Sci Fi Wire caught up with Laura Vandervoort to ask her about her role as Supergirl in the up-coming 7th season of "Smallville"...

"It's great, because how it works is that on Krypton, I was older than him," Vandervoort said in an interview at Comic-Con International in San Diego on July 28. "He was a baby. We were both sent [to Earth], and I got trapped in suspended animation and didn't age. I come out of my ship looking for a baby, and see this 6-foot-3-inch beautiful man, and I don't believe that is him. It's an interesting dynamic, because he's older on Earth, and I'm older on Kypton. On Earth, he is telling me how to control my powers and be human and respect people. But I am explaining Krypton to him, things he didn't even know about his mother, who I was very close to."
