Season 2 Promo

July 29, 2007: SDCC News - WB Animation Talks “Legion of Super Heroes”

Friday at the San Diego Comic Con saw Warner Animation display clips from the up-coming seasons of both "The Batman" and "Legion of Super Heroes".

TV Guide's Rich Sands introduced the Legion's producer James Tucker, who was joined by directors Brandon Vietti and Michael Goguen, as well as voice actors Yuri Lowenthal (Superman), Phil Morris (new villain Imperiex) and Alexander Polinsky, who will be playing Chameleon Boy.

"The great thing about the Legion is every so often they do a reboot," Tucker said. "Going into the second season, the mandate was to up the ante. Season one was the Silver Age version of the legion. Season two we wanted to make it the Bronze Age, things happen that are a lot more exciting and dangerous. The show's got a lot more hard hitting action. It's darker visually, and the plots are more adult, but not adult skewing. It's a lot more exciting of a show."

With the second season of "Legion of Super Heroes" looming, the official website now sports a new look, reflecting the change in direction of the show.

The Warner Animation panel also revealed details of Superman's appearance in the up-coming season of "The Batman"...

The season premiere shows Batman meeting Superman, but joining the League first. Returning as Superman and Lois Lane are voice actors George Newbern and Dana Delany. "Sometimes it's an artistic decision," Romano said of the casting. "Sometimes we need to recast, we're given a directive. This is a case of our series was picked up on Monday, and to hit our schedule, we had to record on Thursday. It takes a long time to cast, so I thought 'I think i did a good job the first time, I think I'm gonna ask them to come back.' So Clancy Brown came back, and George Newbern and Dana Delany. They're all just awesome. We try not to duplicate exactly what we've done, but sometimes it's all about the acting. I just let them loose and get out of their way."

Goguen explained a little about why the two icons would meet. "Gotham is rebuilding, Superman is coming to present a check from Metropolis. Batman has joined the Justice League before Superman, Superman is more of a loner, and more reticent to join up with any kind of League. He's a younger Superman, he's a little bit remote and serious."
