September 23, 2007: Superman/Superboy Court Hearings Set for Early 2008

TrexFiles.com has posted an update on the ongoing legal battle over Superman and Superboy between DC Comics and the Siegel family. Here's what has happened since our last news report on this back in late July...

  • A consolidated hearing was scheduled for September 17, 2007 to discuss motions pertinent to both the Superman and Superboy lawsuits

  • Plaintiffs and Defendants filed additional memoranda in support of their positions. Perhaps the most noteworthy for the comics community: declarations of support for the Siegels by Jim Steranko and Mark Evanier. (Unfortunately I don't have copies of these, so comics journalists, time to go to work!)

  • On September 11, the parties filed a joint stipulation that Superman movie director Bryan Singer would be deposed by November 30, 2007.

  • On September 17, 2007, the court heard arguments related to motions pertinent to both the Superman and Superboy lawsuits. That hearing produced this order resolving several discovery issues.

  • Next step in the Superman lawsuit: a trial scheduled to start on January 22, 2008.

  • Next step in the Superboy lawsuit: the judge's disposition of issues arising from the July 2007 ruling, with the possibility of a trial to be scheduled for sometime after the Superman trial begins.
