Noel Neill as Gertrude

July 2, 2006: Noel Neill Meets Fans in Santa Cruz

The Santa Cruz Sentinel published an article about Noel Neill's appearance at the Atlantis Fantasyworld comic book store this weekend. Here's part of the article...

Neill performed on television as the intrepid reporter Lois Lane of the mythical Daily Planet in the "Adventures of Superman" series. She is generally credited for being the first working woman many people saw on television. Now 85, she plays an heiress in the new film "Superman Returns." Fans met a white-haired and smiling Neill clad in Superman attire. Her ensemble included a shiny belt, with the letter "S" for "Superman" outlined in rhinestones. The "S" also appeared on her shirt, in sequins. Her sneakers were bright gold.

Neill said it's fun to meet the "nice people" who grew up with her television show.

"It's nice to be loved," Neill said.

Doug Johnson of Santa Cruz was one of many fans who lined up to meet Neill. He said he respected Neill's "energy and vivaciousness when it comes to meeting the public still at the age of 85."
