Lane Smith

January 23, 2006: Make a Donation in Memory of Lane Smith

As many of you will recall, Lane Smith, the actor who played Perry White in the TV series "Lois & Clark", died in June 2005. Lane suffered from ALS in his later years.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal, neurodegenerative disease that attacks nerve cells and pathways in the brain and spinal cord. When these cells die, voluntary muscle control and movement dies with them. Patients in the later stages of the disease are totally paralyzed, yet in most cases, their mind remains sharp and alert.

I received an email today from Lane Smith's widow Deborah, who sends this message to you all, "A big thank you to all of Lane's fans for their generous contributions to the ALS association. We are really striving to meet our $100,000 mark so we may build a wing in his honor. Please send contributions to the ALS Association in Calabasas, California, telling them you are a fan of Superman. We are at $30,000 so we still need more funds. Thank you!"
