Dean Cain

September 29, 2004: Dean Cain in “Clubhouse”

Dean Cain knows a little something about playing a fictional American icon from his high-flying days as Superman on "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman."

The 38-year-old Michigan native is also familiar with the world of professional sports, having signed with the Buffalo Bills after graduating from Princeton.

However, the man of steel and gridiron trades his cape and cleats for long socks and spikes to play New York Empires' star third baseman Conrad Dean on the CBS drama "Clubhouse" airing Tuesdays on CBS at 9pm.

Cain was drawn to the show's family-oriented premise about 16-year-old baseball fan Pete Young (Jeremy Sumpter) living out his dream of being a batboy for his favorite team while dealing with struggles at home with his single mom (Mare Winningham).

"I have a 4-year-old son and I'm a single dad, and there's not that many shows on the air that I sit and watch with my son," Cain said at a CBS press event at Dodgers Stadium. "This had the unique situation of combining things that I love - like professional sports and a family show. It's almost as if it was tailor-made for me."
