April 15, 2004: AOL Gets More Chloe Chronicles!
AMERICA ONLINE OFFERS EXCLUSIVE ACCESS TO SERIES OF NEW ONLINE ADVENTURES TIED TO THE WB's HIT SERIES 'SMALLVILLE'Only for AOL® for Broadband Members, 'Chloe Chronicles' Delivers Brief Weekly Video Segments That Extend the 'Smallville' Viewing Experience from On-Air to Online
America Online, Warner Bros. Television and The WB have once again teamed up to create the "Chloe Chronicles," an AOL® for Broadband exclusive original series of brief online video segments that extend plotlines from The WB and Warner Bros. Television's hit show "Smallville." Now in its second year, the "Chloe Chronicles" features Clark Kent's friend Chloe Sullivan (played by Allison Mack), as she investigates suspicious happenings around the town of Smallville. Beginning today and continuing for seven weeks through May 26, a new, specially created "Chloe Chronicles" video will debut each Wednesday, the same day "Smallville" airs on The WB (8 p.m. ET/PT). The "Chloe Chronicles" can only be viewed through the AOL for Broadband service at AOL Keyword: Chloe Chronicles.
A second season of the "Chloe Chronicles" was created after a positive response from members to the first season in 2003; members viewed the video hundreds of thousands of times and gave positive feedback via AOL message boards. The online series serves as a platform to promote new "Smallville" episodes airing in April and May. Produced by the same team behind the television series, the "Chloe Chronicles" provides extended plotlines that give fans further insights into the stories and characters of "Smallville." The "Chloe Chronicles" also provides clues to upcoming "Smallville" storylines and intertwines elements from the popular comic books of the same name. The online program also features "Smallville" cast members including Sam Jones III (Pete Ross) and John Glover (Lionel Luthor).
New this year, the "Chloe Chronicles" utilizes DC Comics' Smallville comic books to continue the plotline. For instance, after watching the first installment of the "Chloe Chronicles" online, fans can then read Smallville #7 to receive an enhanced backstory to the online segments.
"We think 'Chloe Chronicles' is a unique and creative way to allow viewers to interact and engage with 'Smallville' outside its weekly time slot, so we're pleased to be bringing a whole new set of 'Chloe' adventures to our members," said Patricia Karpas, Vice President and General Manager, AOL Television. "Finding new ways to promote television shows, while providing our members with unique and exclusive content, is really at the heart of AOL Television's mission."
"The WB is always seeking ways to grow fan investment and loyalty in our shows, and this partnership with Warner Bros. Television and AOL provides us a unique opportunity to accomplish that," said Suzanne Kolb, Executive Vice President, Marketing, The WB. "We're thrilled the 'Chloe Chronicles' achieves both objectives as we head towards the 'Smallville' season finale in May."
"The reaction to the 'Chloe Chronicles' last season far exceeded our wildest expectations," said Lisa Gregorian, Senior Vice President, Warner Bros. Television Creative Services. "In a wonderful example of cross-company promotion, the storyline of 'Chloe Chronicles' starts on the pages of DC Comics' Smallville, continues on AOL and wraps up back in the comic books. Not only does this offer added content for viewers of the 'Smallville' television show, readers of the comic book and to members of AOL, but also drives exposure beyond the television screen, comic book and computer, hopefully creating new viewers, readers and online fans along the way."
Added Shawn Hardin, Senior Vice President of Product and Programming, AOL for Broadband, "The 'Chloe Chronicles' is another exciting example of the unique programming available to our members on AOL for Broadband, and proves once again that our service is a fast-growing platform for producers and networks to create entirely new forms of video programming."
Season-to-date, "Smallville" remains The WB' s highest-rated series among adults 18-34 (2.6/8), adults 18-49 (2.1/6), persons 12-34 (2.7/8), men 18-34 (2.5/8), men 18-49 (2.1/6), males 12-34 (2.7/9) and male teens (3.0/10) ('03-'04 STD: 9/22/03-4/04/04). The program, now in its third season, earned the distinction of being the network's highest rated series across those key demos in its freshman and sophomore seasons as well.
