Smallville Season 3

February 10, 2004: Other Al Gough Interviews

Besides our own interview with "Smallville" executive producer Al Gough, other fan sites also got to interview him and have put up their interviews today. Here are a few excerpts and links to those other interviews...

The Pulse:

There has been some rumbling about Smallville ending when Clark, Chloe, Lana, and Pete graduate. Although Gough couldn't get into specifics, he said, "That's always an issue you face when you do a younger skewed TV show where kids graduate and go on to college. Certainly people will go to different schools and stay in the same realm, they just wouldn't be in Smallville High anymore. Clark still has a family farm and now that his father is in poor health, Clark can't just go away. Where will Chloe go? How about Pete? We'll broaden the universe of the show, which is good. We'll have the opportunity to tell a lot of different stories."

The Comics Continuum:
Q: You've shot the Christopher Reeve stuff?

A: The Christopher Reeve stuff is shot. We shot that in the middle of January in New York. Those scenes are shot for "Legacy," and the rest of the episode is shooting now.

    Q: Whenever he's involved, it's a big deal.

A: It's certainly big for us because we have to move from Vancouver to New York. This year, which I think is great, we shot his scenes in the New York Public Library, which doubles as his mansion.

I think the scenes have a scope which they didn't necessarily have last year when we were shooting basically in the basement. That was a fun way to introduce him, but now we're able to step it up a bit. And he's got a scene with Lionel, which is great, because it's two titans circling each other.

And there's an interesting scene with Clark where he sort of calls him on the carpet a little bit about his actions over the past year since he found about his origins.

It's a great relationship and I think we sort of put Dr. Swann a little more firmly in our mythology, so he doesn't feel like a guy who doesn't just drop in every now and again. And he's certainly set up to come back in Season 4.

KryptonSite:
On the subject of speculation, we also asked Al Gough what he thinks of all of the speculation surrounding the Adam character from recent episodes. "I think it's great. I will set the record straight, and say he's not Bruce Wayne, or Batman, unfortunately, but he's definitely a dark and mysterious stranger who's come into Smallville, and I think you'll see over the next four episodes he really shakes it up.," Gough said. He added that they've always wanted to incorporate the character of Bruce Wayne into the series at some point, but that would likely be vetoed because of the Chris Nolan/David Goyer "Batman: Intimidation" film that is coming up. Superman-related guests are much more likely.

Devoted to Smallville:
Q: Recently we have seen a number of repeat guest stars returning from past seasons. Will there be any other guest stars returning by the end of this season?

    A: Potentially Perry (Michael McKean).

Q: Great, is there a storyline to go along with his return?

A: Well as we are looking towards the season end, toward the last couple of episodes. He is somebody that certainly could return. And if we don't see him this season it will definitely be returning in season four. I think it is fun certainly for us to bring back some of these characters and great for the fans to see some of their favorite characters that they have seen in previous seasons come back.
