January 8, 2004: Canadian Online Explorer Interviews Tom Welling

The Canadian Online Explorer recently interviewed Tom Welling about the future of "Smallville" and the possibility of him playing Superman in the up-coming movie. Here's an excerpt from the interview...

Smallville is the flagship series on the WB network, so Welling is confident he'll fulfill his five-year contract.

"I'd be willing to extend that contract as long as he stays in Smallville. I have no interest in playing Clark Kent in college, Clark Kent in his first job, Clark Kent becoming Superman or Clark Kent going into retirement."

The producers of the proposed Superman films have talked to Welling about playing the Man of Steel on the big screen, but he insists that's not going to happen.

"There definitely have been conversations but my schedule makes it impossible for the movies to happen for me.

"Those are big movies with big commitments and I have such a small window for feature films on Smallville that it just isn't possible."

He acknowledges there are people trying to coordinate those schedules but he's "not letting my mind go there. The moment I start thinking of the possibility, my head gets all cluttered."
