December 20, 2004: “Tomorrow's Memoir” Filmmaker Interviewed

BlueTights.net have interviewed filmmaker Jim Cliffe about his short film "Tomorrow's Memoir", a short film about what happens to a Superhero (possibly Superman) in his later years. Here's an excerpt from the interview...

Q: When did you have the idea for Tomorrow's Memoir? Was it something you had wanted to do for a while?

A: I wanted to do a short that would be a reflection of the kind of films that I'd like to make. I think it's important for a filmmaker to find a subject that speaks to them. I don't really like trends, or catering to what's currently popular. My goal was to shoot a competitive short in 2002. I was searching for an idea for about a month with minimal success until I read a Gary Larson 'Far Side' daily calendar cartoon with the caption 'When Superheroes Get Old'. In the cartoon, we see an old tubby-shaped man in brown slacks, blue Superman-like shirt, glasses, felt hat, and a red cape, and he's standing on the ledge of his high-rise apartment window in the city, turning to his elderly wife and saying 'Dang. Now what was I going out for?'. I thought, 'You know. I think there's something to explore here!"
