November 7, 2004: Ratner Approves of Superman Casting

Not that it was needed, but it is nice to read that ex-Superman director Brett Ratner approves of the casting of an unknown actor for the up-coming Superman movie, now being directed by Bryan Singer...

Director Brett Ratner, who tried to bring a new Superman film to the big screen, has revealed that he approves of the decision to hire an unknown actor as the Man of Steel.

Ratner apparently gave up on his attempts at the project, because Warner Brothers were desperate to hire a big-name star for the film.

However, producer Bryan Singer has signed up Brandon Routh, a little-known actor who has appeared in Cold Case and Will & Grace, to play Superman in a new film.

Ratner told Zap2it, "It's great to have an unknown for that part, that's what I wanted to do, but I was being pressured to get a name star for the part.

"I couldn't find any big name who was willing to commit to three films for the part, and I wanted to go with an unknown all along."

He added, "I think that role has to be someone who is unknown and I'm looking forward to see what Bryan does with it."
