In memory of Christopher Reeve

November 1, 2004: Superman Homepage Mentioned in Reeve Tribute Article

The Bridge Paper published an article on October 28th with a tribute to Christopher Reeve. The article contained a quote from Steve Younis of the Superman Homepage. Here's an excerpt from the article...

It seemed like nothing short of Kryptonite could stop Christopher Reeve. Plagued by a tragic accident that left the once Man of Steel wheel chair bound, it appeared Reeve was making a slow recovery.  It's because of such progress that his death on October 10 was all the more shocking.

Born in New York City on September 25, 1952, Reeve was the son of a novelist and a newspaper reporter. He started his acting career at a young age and appeared in soap operas while in college, but it was the movie Superman that gave the athletic, 6'4" Reeve his stardom.

To many fans, Reeve was Superman, a role that left the actor unable to  "escape the cape," as he often put it. However, it was after becoming paralyzed in May 1995, following a horse riding accident in Virginia, that Reeve found his most important role, becoming an advocate for the disabled.

Another disturbing aspect of his death was he passed away during National Disability Employment Awareness month. A strong supporter of that cause, Reeve made many speeches on the subject, including one commending Goldman, Sachs & Company on its company awareness about issues facing the disabled. "I think his lasting impact will be his activism for his battle to bring [Spinal Chord Injury] to the attention of the governments of the world, and the public at large," said Steve Younis, editor of the Superman Homepage.
