April 6, 2003: Schneider Says No to Welling as Superman
John Schneider who plays Jonathan Kent on "Smallville" spoke with Zap2It.com about his opinion regarding any possibility of Tom Welling playing Superman in an up-coming Hollywood movie. Here's an excerpt from the interview..."If Tom were to do the 'Superman' movie and it were not to be excellent, if it were to be 'Lost in Space,' then we would lose one of potentially the future's brightest stars, and I don't think it's worth it," says Schneider, who previously starred in TV's "Dukes of Hazzard." "Also, it's so incredibly right on the nose that I think -- best case scenario -- that it would be good and he'd never be able to do anything but sequels to it."
TV dad concludes, "It's a lose-lose situation. I have friends that were offered it and I told them the same thing. You've got too much going, you don't need to do this. If it's great, you'll be Superman. If it's not, you'll have blown it and you can't do that."
