Published by the ABC.

June 12, 2003 (Metropolis) - The southern Illinois town of Metropolis is planning a Super weekend.

The town is hosting its annual Superman Festival, when fans of the comic-book hero converge on the town square. Organizers are expecting 15- to 20-thousand people to visit the festival, which begins today and ends Sunday.

One fan -- Steve Younis -- traveled all the way from Sydney, Australia. Younis runs a Web site for Superman fans. He says most fans come for the auction of Superman memorabilia, scheduled for Saturday night.

Organizers started the festival 25 years ago to capitalize on the town's famous name and to draw more tourists to the area.
