Superman Display

May 15, 2003: Superman Fundraiser a Success!

You may recall that on May 5th we announced that the Northern Ohio Toy, Antique, Doll & Collectible Mega Show would be playing host to one of the largest Superman collections in the world on May 11th with a percentage of the proceeds going to the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation. Well that day has come and gone, and Jamie Reigle the organizer of that display emailed me with the following report and photos from the event...

"It started off pretty rough.

I was originally supposed to get a building to display my collection in... but 3 days before the show the storms here in Ohio did some major damage and it flooded the thing out!! I ended up having to set up in a small corner of the toy show building where I only got a 60 foot spot... and to make it worse... it was all cement walls so there was nothing to nail into to hang everything up!!!

I ended up having to buy about 100 2x4's to make a temporary wall to nail into and by the time that was done I was only left with 1 day to set up the stuff!!

I ended up getting out a few thousand items... but I had taken 2 - 24 ft trucks packed to the gills and only actually got out about 85% of the first truck... so I did the best I could with what I had to work with.

We had about 400 Superman Collectors come in from 5 different states!!! A few of them even stated that they only came because they saw the ad on the Superman Homepage website and would not have known about it otherwise!! People were taking pictures and videotaping all day!! So it really turned out to be a good time!!

I'll never forget the little boy who kept sadly asking..."were is Superman??? His costume is here...", pointing at the Christopher Reeve Worn Costume on display... I had to explain that Superman was sleeping because he was out all night helping people in the terrible storm that ripped through for 2 days before. It was really a terrible storm, most people didn't have power and trees and lines were down everywhere.

A special thanks to my good friend Tim Gardner, who loaned the Chris Reeve Worn Costume and Helen Slater Worn Costume for the event!!

I am attaching a couple photos of the display. I hope you enjoy them!"
