April 5, 2002: Notable Superman TV Appearances
Superman fans in the U.S. have some interesting viewing over the next few weeks. Besides the obvious shows such as "Smallville" and "Justice League", Superman fans should keep an eye out for the following programs...
- Sunday, April 7th at 6pm - "TV Road Trip":
The TRAVEL channel (Channel 29) has a special TV presentation titled "TV Road Trip" where host John Ritter will take viewers on a two-hour tour around America, making a stop at Metropolis, Illinois. Noel Neill, "Lois Lane" from The Adventures of Superman, flies to the "Superman Capitol of the World" - Metropolis, IL. Although the TV series was never filmed there, each year the city celebrates the "Man of Steel" with a festival where visitors can join a Superman look-alike contest, read the local paper called The Metropolis Planet, or visit an impressive Superman museum with over 75,000 items including George Reeve's original costume and a lunchbox that is now worth $7,000."TV Road Trip" will repeat again on Sunday, April 7th at 9pm; Saturday April 13th at 6pm; Saturday April 13th at 9pm; and again on Sunday, April 14th at 9am. Check your local guides for confirmation.
- Saturday, April 13th at 4.30pm - "I Love Lucy: Lucy Meets Superman":
Look, up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Lucy, who's impersonating Superman in this episode, which first aired on Jan. 14, 1957. See it on TNT (Channel 42).She may act like a strange visitor from another planet, but she doesn't have powers or abilities far beyond those of mortal man. In fact, she's flirting with mortality when she gets stuck on the ledge outside her apartment---in a Superman suit---trying to make a grand entrance to Little Ricky's birthday party. Why she's there has to do with her competing with Caroline Appleby (Doris Singleton), who was planning a party for her son the same day. But at least it's comforting to know that Superman star George Reeves (who has a cameo) just might fly in (so to speak) to help.
"I Love Lucy: Lucy Meets Superman" will repeat again on Sunday, April 14th at 11am.
