Superman: 10c Adventure

November 4, 2002: Berganza Talks Superman in 2003

The guys at Comicon's PULSE website interviewed Editors of the Superman Comics, Eddie Berganza about the year ahead for the Man of Steel. Here's an excerpt from the interview...

Q: What prompted the cancellation of Superman: Man of Steel? Was there just too much Superman?

BERGANZA: Actually, it's to make way for more Superman. We have SUPERMAN: METROPOLIS beginning in February written by Chuck Austen and drawn by Danijel Zezelj with colors by Jose Villarubia. It's unlike any of the other Super-titles. It focuses more on Jimy and a new character, a rival for Jimmy. It's started out of the thought of what would the TV show SMALLVILLE grow into in a couple of years, and naturally that's Metropolis. It's a more real life approach to the super-powers deal as well as this amazing city with tech from the future.

Chuck likes doing the ordinary people in extra-ordinary circumstances, so this is ideal for him.

And then there's SUPERMAN/BATMAN that Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness are involved in. The stuff that will come out of that... wish I could say more. :)

Q: With one less Super title, how does that allow you and the creators to concentrate on the bigger Superman picture?

BERGANZA: The Superman picture is always pretty big, but the shifting of titles and creation of new ones is all in the continuing effort to keep this character fresh. Steve Seagle tand Scott McDaniel will be coming in with a whole new approach as they take over SUPERMAN beginning with the 10¢ ADVENTURE. Real happy with how that's coming, and the re-exploration of what Superman is.
