June 20, 2002: Steve Seagle Talks Superman

Newsarama caught up with new "Superman" creative team member, Steve Seagle and asked him about his views on the Man of Steel and his role in the team. Here's an excerpt from the interview...

While Superman Group Editor Eddie Berganza lauded the new Superman creative team of Steve Seagle and Scott McDaniel when it was announced recently, the creators themselves were otherwise occupied, and unable to talk about their view of the character and plans for the Man of Steel.

Well, half is better than nothing. Newsarama caught up with upcoming Superman writer Steve Seagle to get his feeling on taking the helm of the flagship title for world's most recognized superhero. Not wanting to interrupt the creative flow, we figured we'd let him have his say.

"Eddie has approached me about working on Superman before, and I've always turned him down!

"But I actually spent the last year working on an original hardcover project - 128 pages painted by Teddy Kristiansen and edited by Karen Berger, called Superman: It's a Bird... which in a lot of ways confronts my resistance to the Superman mythos. It deals with Superman tangentially, in ways that are extremely unique for the character and extrapolates on nearly every iconic and metaphoric purpose of him. And Teddy's painted art on this one is really museum-quality stuff. Wait until you see it!
