February 20, 2001: Superman DVD Spoiler Information
My trusty connection to the Superman DVD has sent me the following information regarding what extra footage is included in the "Special Edition" cut of "Superman: The Movie" as presented on the up-coming DVD. If you'd prefer not to know in advance what you will and won't see, then I suggest you stop reading now...I have yet to view the new edit, but I DO know for sure from a reliable contact who has seen the VHS screening tape that the Executioner scene is there, but without the close-ups of his face and his "death", there's the extra piece where Clark Kent, after he sits at his desk at the Planet for first time, meets the reporter next to him and talks with Jimmy. The floating in mid-air to catch the rocket scene is NOT in the edit, but there are some extra shots of the missile control people. All greenish costume blue screen shots (example: Superman flying past the camera on his way to rescue Jimmy from the dam) HAVE been color corrected. I'm told that his costume is a consistent, beautiful blue throughout the film. There's no extra post helicopter rescue of Superman flying past the buildings. Mr. Donner's cameo, "That'll be the day..." IS in the edit. I will report more after I've watched the film next week.
