Fidel Castro and the Raft Boy Statue

August 6, 2001: Cuban Anti-Superman Statue

Cuban President Fidel Castro looks at a sculpture simbolizing Cuban raft boy Elian Gonzalez atop the arms of the Cuban people, preparing to throw a "Superman" doll as a symbol of his refusal to accept toys that were offered to him during his stay in Miami, July 14, 2001 in Cardenas in Matanzas province, some 150kms east of Havana. The sculpture is located in the "Museum to the Battle of Ideas," which was inaugurated by Castro on Saturday July 14th.
