February 17, 2000: 'Superman' Draft Turned In

Bill Wisher, the screenwriter who worked with James Cameron on "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," has just turned in his draft of the new "Superman" script to Warner Bros., and sources confirmed that both the studio and Nicolas Cage (who has long wanted to play the superhero) are very happy with the draft. Sources at the studio said that they are looking to the project, produced by "Batman's" Jon Peters, to revive the franchise. The Man of Steel project, which at one time had been far along in preproduction, is one that -- if properly executed -- has significant merchandising and licensing potential. Warners is taking its time, making sure all the elements are right. Wisher is repped by agent Geoffrey Brandt.
