April 21, 1998: “Superman Lives” Postponed!

WARNER BROS. has postponed the production of the new Superman movie (Superman Lives/Reborn) indefinitely, blaming its budget of over $125 million and being unsatisfied with the script. It had been set to go in front of cameras in July, with Nicolas Cage in the lead role, Tim Burton directing. While the role of Lois Lane was never cast, other roles were expected to be played by Kevin Spacey (Brainiac) and Chris Rock (Jimmy Olsen).
