According to The Hollywood Reporter, a new Superman film is in development at Warner Bros. Pictures!
Under Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav and Warner Bros. Pictures heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, Warners has an intense desire to reprise the Cavill iteration of the hero. The project that would essentially be “Man of Steel 2” is being produced by Charles Roven and is currently in a search for writers. (There is a wishlist, of course. And Christopher McQuarrie, the hand that guides the “Mission: Impossible” movies was on it. McQuarrie worked with Cavill on the 2018 installment, “Fallout,” but sources say no official outreach has been made nor may it be feasible, as the director is working on the next back-to-back “Impossible” installments.)
As we’ve seen in recent interviews with Dwayne Johnson, the actor and his manager Dany Garcia, who also represents Henry Cavill, have been pushing hard for a number of years now to have Cavill return to play Superman. They faced opposition from DC Films head Walter Hamada, who is now finishing up in that role, paving the way for a new era, in which Cavill’s Superman is back in favor with the studio.

The problem with Man of Steel wasn’t Cavill, who did a good job with the material. I hope Warner can find writers who understand that Superman is first and foremost an idealist, that his biggest battles aren’t with superpowered opponents but with challenges to his idealism.

For my fellow Superman fans and friends who have wanted this, I’m happy for you. I know that this is what you wanted so I’m glad to hear that you’re happy. That being said, as a Routh Superman fan I can’t help but feel that WB is neglecting Brandon Routh Superman fans like me. While I’m really happy with Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman and Lois series, the version of Superman that I want to see the most is the one that isn’t getting any attention at all. Hopefully when they do make this Man Of Steel sequel they bring back Amy Adams as Lois too.
