New “Supergirl” Costume Image and Showrunner Comments

Website tvline.com today offered a brief but informative look into the upcoming season of Supergirl, offering a look at Kara in her new costume, along with several insights from the showrunners regarding the theme and tone of the season to come. From the article:

“We think of this as our ode to Black Mirror,” showrunner Robert Rovner says of Supergirl’s fifth season, which finds our heroes battling technology itself. “The hope is that people would be more engaged with what’s going on and wanting to make the world a better place, but they seem to be more engaged with technology. We explore how that affects our characters and how our villains try to exploit that.”

The article goes on to tease a bit twist in episode 2. To read the whole article, click here.

I’m sorry to say that the new suit still hasn’t grown on me. I still think it would look better with a red belt with a gold buckle, and with no weird cape clip attachments. Brighter reds for the suit would help a lot.

No I have to agree I really don’t like it either, and not crazy about her new hair style either, why mess with was working and 99% of the viewers liked. Plus has a New 52 look to it too.

She doesn’t look like herself with the new hair style. It looks like she doesn’t care about how she looks. It’s too messy.

You’re right. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The original suit she had was way better.

I have to agree with you and the others. I’m not thrilled with the uniform.

If they had to change the one she has been wearing, I would have liked to have seen yellow/gold in the S-shield, brighter reds and getting rid of those stockings she wore.

She looks like a female version of Homelander with those pants.

I have a different reason for not liking it. IMO from what I’ve seen regarding women in these superhero roles in TV, movies and especially in Marvels world, is the way they have “manned up” women in general. Most of these costumes, from head to toe fall into a universal design that looks like either sex could wear them. I may be wrong saying this, but by the time the next Wonder Woman comes out I would be willing to bet by the end of that movie that we will see her in a full body suit as well. And… Read more »

Yeah, what they had her in before was much better, imo.

This just looks like she’s wearing the CW Superman’s costume – which, if she’s “taking over” for him while he’s having time off… might be the point. If that’s the case, I kinda get it? But still, not great.

Honestly, if they wanted to shake things up, the current comics outfit is actually excellent, and even has a modern variation on the blue skirt, as well.

Kal-Elvis I did notice that too especially with the cape and straps or whatever they call them. I do see your point of maybe she wants people to think she’s Superman, if she is in Metropolis, but, still I’d think CW still want Supergirl to be Supergirl even in Metropolis and not just be a pretender or hide that it’s her in Metropolis if she’s there. Maybe the only way they’d want her to make people think she’s Superman, is so people especially crooks don’t wonder where is Superman & why is Supergirl now in Metropolis if she is indeed… Read more »
