A new photo of Henry Cavill wearing Christopher Reeve’s Superman costume has surfaced online.
Apparently from his audition for “Superman Returns”, an unshaven Cavill stands smiling as he poses for a photo wearing the 1978 style Superman suit.

It was a make shift suit they threw together. It’s for Man of Steel.
I don’t know. Any other actor in that suit besides Reeve or possibly Routh just doesn’t look right to me. I think Routh could pull it off because of his likeness to Reeve, but Cavill just doesn’t come close to Reeve’s height for that suit. Even if he were in his top musclcular shape, the height would still make him look odd in that suit to me. It might be the way the photo was taken, but I’m not seeing a belt buckle.
i just noticed that to. He just has the yellow band. I mean all flaws aside it does serve the basic function of just trying to get an dea of how this guy would look in a Superman suit before having one made for him. Also if they had went with a more classic suit design they likely would have tweaked it in sutble ways like the material and the shape of the S and maybe the cape attachment. It wouldn’t have been exact. They might have varied the boot design and the length of the cape although IMO having… Read more »
I wonder who released this photo?
It was released by Prop Store and it’s for Man of Steel
Thanks. I knew that the test suit was for Man of Steel, but I didn’t know where the photo came from. I appreciate it.
This isn’t from Returns it’s from Man of Steel. He never auditioned for Returns he auditioned for Flyby in a totally different suit. Also Singer only tested Routh, he watched Flyby audition tapes
I just watched the new trailer for Spider-Man no way home, and I’ve come to the conclusion, that in my own opinion, Superman needs a multiverse crossover film. I’m talking multible different versions of Superman on screen together at the same time teaming up. Routh’s Superman teaming up with Cavill’s Superman and Hoechlin’s Superman and any other version as well. Does anyone else feel the same? Because I truly belive that this should happen. The multiverse is the next big thing for movies. It would be a huge miss opportunity if it doesn’t happen for Superman. Who else agrees with… Read more »
@Superman2878 – I completely agree with you 100%. Superman needs the same kind of “multiverse treatment” that Spider-Man is getting. I love your idea about Routh’s Superman teaming up with Cavil’s Superman and Hoechlin’s Superman.
If Warner Brothers were to try this (which they should), then they could explore black Superman aka Calvin Ellis as well. This way we could satisfy a more expansive range of Superman-fans and other crowds who are looking for something new.
Exactly GodzillaofSteel! I’m looking at the BIG picture. What would benefit Superman the most. A movie with Routh,Cavill,Hoechlin and any other actor who has played Superman. Add in even Calvin Ellis and Val-Zod. Melissa Benoist’s, Laura Vandervoort‘s and Sasha Calle’s Supergirl. The Kent boys Jorden and Johnathan. John Henry Irons aka Steel.Titans’s Superboy. Tom Welling’s Superman(if he’s willing to put the suit on). Add in Michael Rosenbaum’s Lex Luthor. One big massive Superman multiverse movie. This could be one of the biggest DC movies in movie history. This needs to be a priority for DC/WB. I know that there was… Read more »
Also add in Michael Keaton‘s, Ben Affleck’s, Christian Bale’s, and Robert Pattinson’s version of Batman as well for even more excitement. And for those who always wanted to see Nicolas Cage as Superman, might as well add him in there too. I’m talking maximum Superman fan service to the Superman fandom that would please everyone and anyone who is a superman fan. 😀
I forgot to add in Helen Slater’s Supergirl in that list as well. 🙂

Wonder where they got that suit because the S looks crooked and one of the boots has a flat top. That said even though he’s not shaved nor has his hair styled like Superman he’s still basically pulling it off. So it’s easy to imagine him in a more quality version of the same suit, in shape and cleaned up for it how good he’d look.
