Visually impaired Kala Lour has only been the first Gold Lantern for a short time. Kala is currently stranded in the 21st Century while the rest of the Legion of Super-Heroes aid the Justice League in adapting to their surroundings a thousand years later. There isn’t much time for acclimation as the Great Darkness has appeared in both eras. A direct assault does nothing except warn Brainiac-5 of the end of all things.
Story – 4: The only thing wrong with this story is the series title. It’s enough to lower the rating for me as it feels more like a team-up book than a battle between superheroes. The writing itself and this chapter are great, but DC’s choice to put “Vs.” – or “Versus” as I tend to dislike abbreviations, but that’s just me – in the title feels like a misleading publicity ploy at this point in time. In spite of all that, I have enjoyed what I’ve read so far. Pick it it up if you can.
Art – 5: The art is smooth and perfect for conveying the story and its atmosphere. I was reminded of 1990s Superman comics while looking at every image.
Cover Art – 5: This cover depicts Gold Lantern’s situation without giving too much away before folks can read the comic. I wish more new covers did that these days.
Variant Cover Art – 5: Variants tend to use more iconic images lately, and this one is no exception. The art is surprisingly great, too.
