“The Gold Lantern Saga” – Part 1

Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artist: Scott Godlewski
Cover: Scott Godlewski
Variant Cover: Travis Moore

The Legion of Super-Heroes and the Justice League are battling evil in their respective centuries when Wonder Woman and one of Triplicate Girl’s selves are pulled by the Great Darkness. While the other two Triplicate Girls remain with the Legion, the other is in the 21st Century and has aged greatly. Jon Kent brings the Legion to meet the Justice League in oerder to get some answers. However, the Great Darkness pulls Wonder Woman and Triplicate Girl again. This time, Gold Lantern finds himself alone in the Hall of Justice.

4Story – 4: Perhaps the “Versus” in the title is false advertising as neither team is fighting each other, nor do they seem to want to. “And” would maybe be more accurate because this feels more like a team-up at this point in the series. The next issue will probably have some cosmic entity controlling the heroes or some such thing to stop the Great Darkness. Still, this was a good beginning to this serial in spite some falsehoods here and there.

5Art – 5: The art reminds me a lot of Stuart Immonen’s style. Perhaps that’s why I like how Scott Godlewski drew every page in this book. I hope Godlewski remains for this whole series as many of Bendis’ DC books have changed artists in mid-story arc.

5Cover Art – 5: This and the variant are misleading as I believed Clark would be in this issue. I have nothing against Jon Kent. This cover makes one think the story perhaps takes place before Kal went to Warworld. The art is beautiful though.

5Variant Cover Art – 5: This variant should go in the “See Above” category as I risk repeating myself with this cover.
