The story picks up in the African jungle about the time of the end of “Absolute Power”. Gorilla Grodd is imprisoned in Gorilla City. Suddenly, a telepathic scream, a disembodied energy seeking a host, reaches out, and Grodd forces it towards himself. He immediately identifies the powers as belonging to Martian Manhunter.

Now, with his power exponentially increasing, he can free himself and mentally reach out to find the support he needs to bring the fight to the Justice League. He finds a JSU “weak link” in Air Wave, confronting him immediately after his recruitment to the Justice League Unlimited.

Using his newfound powers, Grodd creates an illusion to trick Air Wave into supporting him and betraying the JLU. After casting doubt on the integrity of the League, Grodd claims that they know he is dying from “Tachyon Poisoning” from his time in stasis. The result of this poisoning is that Air Wave will be erased from history. While the League does not care about Air Wave or his condition, Grodd says he does and will help, but needs his help first.

Grodd uses Air Wave’s residual tachyon energy to travel in time to recruit a younger Legion of Doom from the past. Versions of characters that have not had the positive influences from the Justice League. With these hungrier and angrier versions, armed with Grodd’s power upgrade, modern technology, and the JLU knowledge that Air Wave supplied, Grodd believes victory will be his.

4Story – 4: This story is Part Two of Mark Waid’s “We Are Yesterday” Justice League Unlimited and World’s Finest crossover event. Yes, it is part two, but you do not need to be caught up on World’s Finest to enjoy this issue. Part One takes place in the recent past and essentially sets up the event, providing the background or reasoning behind this crossover.

This is a great issue that gives us more background on who Air Wave is working for and why. We also learn the origin of Inferno. This is a Grodd-centric issue, and all interactions with the Justice League are from Grodd’s perspective. “We Are Yesterday” is a fun way to crossover with World’s Finest, taking villains from the past to fight the current versions of the heroes. Led by a Grodd whose power has grown exponentially.

5Art – 5: While Dan Mora did the cover for this month, picking up art duties is Travis Moore, at least for the JLU “We Are Tomorrow” issues. The art is great, Moore’s style in this book picks up some of the book’s style set by Mora in the first arc. There is a seamless transition because of the similar styles. However, Moore’s art has a cleaner feel, and his style is slightly more realistic than Mora’s.

3Cover Art – 3: This Dan Mora cover looks great at first glance, but it feels like the Shazam pose is a recycled image by Mora. Regardless, this is still a nice cover. This cover is the middle image in a three-part connecting cover for this month’s three crossover issues. The other two covers are this month’s World’s Finest #38 and the World’s Finest 2025 Annual.

There are variant covers by Lee Bermejo, Nathan Szerdy, and Mark Spears. The Bermejo and Spears covers are hyper-realistic and uninteresting. The Szerdy cover is another spotlight of JLU women this month, featuring Star Sapphire and Miss Martian. If you like hyper-realistic, the Lee Bermejo features Superman, Wonder Woman, Black Lightning, Flash, and Batman. The Mark Spears cover resembles a photograph or 3D model of Batman and Doctor Occult looking for clues.

There are two Incentive Covers: Dan Jurgens (1:25) and Travis Moore (1:50). Like last month, both covers are better than the three variant covers. The Jurgens cover features the current JLU in the foreground, with the original classic lineup standing behind. The Travis Moore cover features members of the JLU, Titans, and Secret Six face-to-face with an unknown threat.
