The Justice League has returned to their dimension with Queen Hippolyta and new members Naomi McDuffie and Black Adam. Yet, there is no time to relax. As Green Arrow and Black Canary reconcile and deal with an assassin from Checkmate and Naomi’s adoptive parents meet the League, the newly formed United Planets and their honor guard the United Order have warned of the Symnar Utopica, a being who was meant to be his world’s version of Superman, has escaped, and he’s coming to Earth to kill Kal-El. The Justice League will need to work fast to stop him, for a wormhole has opened near the Hall of Justice.
Meanwhile, the Justice League Dark is in Gotham City in their bonus story.
Story – 5: Admittedly, I expected a continuation of “Prisms”. However, that serial and this one could be chapters in an overall arc Bendis has been working on since his run on the main Superbooks and Naomi’s series. Now, we don’t see much of Naomi or Black Adam in this. I would like to see the way they adapt to life in the League as the book progresses. I do love what’s being done in it, however. It’s reminiscent of Bendis’ “Avengers”. That’s still one of my favorite more recent Marvel runs, and this could be one of mine for DC if it continues on its current path.
Art – 5: Steve Pugh is one of my favorite artists, and he really made this issue look smooth and even with his incredible art.
Cover Art – 5: I loved how the cover gives a sense of mystery. That combined with the amazing art made it a joy to see.
Variant Cover Art – 3: It isn’t bad, but it could have been a lot better. I expected more from this variant.
