Back when it seemed that the Justice League and Darkseid were lost forever, it turns out that that wasn’t the case: Cyborg had used one of his wormholes to get them all onto Sonic’s Earth. With the planet destabilized thanks to Darkseid’s Dimensional Engine, the League decides to find the other emeralds and protect the people of the planet as they do so, a perfect mirror to what Sonic and his friends were doing on the DC Earth.
And so, like the last issue, similar events came to pass: At the Water Palace, Wonder Woman helped Blaze the Cat, imperial princess of the Sol Empire, protect a purple chaos emerald from Stompa, Mad Harriet and parademons; Between Westopolis and Central City, Batman grabbed a silver emerald from Metal Sonic, a high performance robot created by Dr. Eggman; At the Lava Mountain Castle, in Lost Hex, Flash stops Baron Vermin and the Deadly Six (Zazz, Zavok, Master Zix, Zeena, Zor, Zomom) and retrieves the yellow emerald; amid the Egg Fleet, Superman stops Dr. Eggman in seconds and rescues the blue emerald; and in the Luminous Forest’s Mystic Jungle, Green Lantern neutralizes Granny Goodness and stops her from draining the wisps while also capturing the green emerald.
At Tails’ lab, Cyborg details the plan: They will send the emeralds into their universe so Sonic and his friends can use them to open the door.
And in no time at all, the two teams are reunited… And the final battle is set…
To Be Continued…
Story – 4: Just like last issue, this was a solid and fun what if scenario. In fact, it’s almost too similar to last issue, which tempted me to dock a point, but I’ll give credit, since there were some fun moments of characterization (Superman and Eggman’s confrontation, Flash just being a human version of Sonic, Batman’s fascination at the Loop-de-loop, everything between John Stewart and the wisps). The battles all felt different, which was appreciated, and you can tell that Ian Flynn cares enough about the DC Characters to make them feel enough like themselves.
Still, this is far too similar too last issue. I’d recommend reading them consecutively, otherwise you’ll feel a little too bored.
Let’s hope this fun little crossover ends well!
Art – 4: Same great if at times slightly weird facially art. Colors really pop off during the Flash and Green Lantern sequences.
Cover Art – 2: Is it a cool cover? Without a doubt. But I don’t care how much of a Batman fan I am, having him and Metal Sonic the only ones on the cover when they’re barely in the issue is false advertising at least, if not just shameless Batman bias.
Variant Cover Art – 3: Generic, but at least it features more characters.
