On another earth, the dimension of one Sonic the Hedgehog, a force like no other invades: Darkseid and his army of parademons. Sonic, his genius best friend Miles “Tails” Prower and his “It’s complicated” love interest Amy Rose manage to fight off the army for now, but wisely head out to see if any of their other friends are in danger. One, Knuckles the Echidna, guardian of the Master Emerald, fights off more of Darkseid’s forces, while the one that IS commands Dessad to continue no matter what, as what he seeks will make power a concern no longer. Using an omega beam, Darkseid crushes Knuckles and the Emerald.

Meanwhile, in Sunset City, Sonic rushes off to do what he does best, when he suddenly encounters The Flash. The two instantly banter with each other about their speed, in a meeting so perfect I shall break the objective review language to just say that is *%$# awesome. Silver the Hedgehog (the time travelling companion of Sonic) also meets up with John Stewart, the Green Lantern, and the two help each other keep the city safe.

Shadow the Hedgehog (the ultimate lifeform) and Batman also meet when they take down a parademon together in an alleyway. Silently, they agree to work together, as do Amy and Tails with Wonder Woman and Cyborg, naturally.

Knuckles then returns out of nowhere to stop Kalibak, with some help from Superman, the two seemingly already knowing each other. Apparently, Clark had saved Knuckles from the sunken Angel Island. With the invasion at a lull, the heroes introduce themselves to each other: The Justice League have come from another dimension to fight against Darkseid, and help out Sonic and his friends. After some explaining, Darkseid’s motives become clear: He’s after the chaos emeralds, which will grant him ultimate power.

Shadow storms off, seeing all this as a waste of time, but Batman stops him, and convinces him they can help, seeing as they both share a similar trauma. Shadow listens… For now.

The heroes all split up, teaming with those most similar to them: Superman and Knuckles, Batman and Shadow, Wonder Woman and Amy, Flash and Sonic, Green Lantern and Silver, and Cyborg and Tails (who stay behind at Tails’ lab to go over a quantum map).

And Flash and Sonic are the (un)lucky ones, as they encounter Darkseid, holding the gem of ultimate power…

To Be Continued…

4Story – 4: I am not the biggest Sonic fan (I like him plenty, but Mario was always my preferred one), and I did admittedly worry that this would be full of comics lore I am not aware of, but I am happy I volunteered for this one because it’s loads of fun so far! It’s one of those “everyone is nice to each other” crossovers, but not in a bad way. The pairings all make sense one way or the other, and we’ve already had great moments between Superman and Knuckles, Batman and Shadow and Flash and Sonic. Darkseid as the threat is also fun, though I wonder if he’ll work with Eggman at all.

There aren’t any deep themes or ideas here, it’s just a fun team up, so enjoy it as one!

3Art – 3: The Sonic art style doesn’t fit DC, but it doesn’t NOT fit DC, if that makes sense. The heroes look fitting or off depending on the page, but the color is as vibrant as any Sonic comic would be. Naturally, the racing between him and Flash is standout.

3Cover Art – 3: Nothing that amazing but a cute cover nonetheless.

3Variant Cover Art – 3: Just like the main cover but slightly different.
