The Kents and most of Smallville receive notices of foreclosure. Meanwhile Clark and Pete look on as Lana almost injures herself mooning over Superboy. Suddenly there’s a run on the bank. The Smallville residents are mad and are not going to take it anymore. They’re coming for bank manager Mr Parmenter who tells them there’s just nothing he can do about the foreclosures. He’s lying. A masked man with a gun charges in to get to Parmenter. Everyone recognizes it’s coach Dale. Out of the crowd comes Pete Ross who talks the Coach down. He becomes a local hero. In his anger over his parents’ farm being foreclosed Clark crashes through the mine and brings his parents a large nugget of gold. His parents are beside themselves. He should not use his powers for personal gain. It’s important to have principles. Superboy spends the rest of the day helping the Smallville residents. He encounters another resident with a gun who is angry at the law for coming for him to leave his farm and then turns on Superboy. After speaking to Parmenter’s boss Superboy decides to confront the man himself. While waiting in his office Superboy makes a decision. He sees Parmenter’s files with x-ray vision and reveals the truth to Smallville. Parmenter lied. He was working with Stagg Industries and was going to get a nice commission on the sales of property. Of course this did not sit well with his boss. Afterwards Clark has a heart to heart with his parents while he eats them out of house and home. Finally in the country of Modora things are not going well for the soldiers. After General Lane is contacted we see he may have special plans for Superboy.
Story – 4: Another fun adventure in the the world of Superboy. While foreclosures and crooked bank managers may not seem like a barrel of fun, Waid has a way of making even the smallest details interesting. This story once again highlights the people of Smallville and how strong and passionate they are about their livelihood. Pete Ross talking the coach down from shooting Parmenter was a great moment. I know we’re going to see more of Pete in this story and it makes me hope we get to see more of Pete in the more current comics. Once again General Lane is up to something he probably shouldn’t be. I will say I’m getting a little bored of the General across these books and even in other media. The exception right now would be his portrayal on “Superman & Lois”. Still he has been mostly an antagonist in these books for years so I should be used to how he’s handled in these books. Anyway a great issue overall.
Art – 5: Patridge has not drawn one bad issue since this story has started and I don’t expect he will as it progresses. And Plascencia’s color are phenomenal.
Cover Art – 4: A fun and amusing cover about a rather serious situation by Ryan Sook.
Variant Cover Art – 4: Nice portrait by Jorge Molina.
Variant Cover Art – 4: Cute cover by Bengal.
