Hamburg Township event seeks 1,000 caped participants this June
The Hamburg Family Fun Fest is gearing up for a super-sized world record attempt. On June 19, 2026, organizers hope to gather at least 1,000 people dressed as Superman at Manly W. Bennett Memorial Park in Whitmore Lake, just north of Ann Arbor.
“We want to honor and recognize our local heroes, and what better way to do that but with Superman,” said Joanna Hardesty, director of the Hamburg Enhanced Recreation Organization (HERO). The event will specifically reach out to veterans, first responders, healthcare workers, and teachers.
The current Guinness World Record stands at 867 Supermen, set in England in 2013. Participants need only three costume elements: a blue shirt, Superman’s iconic “S” logo, and a red cape.
The festival already holds one Guinness World Record—the longest line of doughnuts, achieved in 2015 with nearly 34,000 doughnuts stretched over two miles. This Superman attempt celebrates the festival’s 20th anniversary.
The Hamburg Family Fun Fest runs June 17-20 and typically draws over 30,000 visitors across four days.
