Mark Waid Has a Story in Mind for New Superman Movie

In an interview with The Fanboy Podcast, writer Mark Waid spoke about his love for Superman, what the character means to him, and whether he’d be interested in writing a script for a new Superman movie.

“Sure. I mean, that would never happen. So it’s really easy for me to say ‘Yes.’ But sure. That’d be interesting.”

“I’d take a swing at something like that. I don’t know what my story would be. Actually, that’s not true. I know exactly what my story would be. But I can’t give it away. It’s the one Superman story I’ve got in my back pocket that – if we all live long enough – maybe someone will ask me to tell it someday.”

Mark Waid, whose first comic book story “The Puzzle of the Purloined Fortress” (an eight-page Superman story) published back in 1985 in “Action Comics #572”, has written many great and memorable Superman comic book stories over the years, including “Kingdom Come” and “Superman: Birthright”.

I think it’s tough transition for a comic writer to all of a sudden switch to screenplays, but I’m on board if he

1.) has a seasoned director/writer co-write with him.

2.) turns his idea into another graphic novel. I’d buy that in a second.

Maybe he knew Clark years before he became superman. They could cast teenage versions of both Lex and Clark. Lex could’ve left Smallville at a young age after a failed experiment with Kryptonite. It would explain why he was looking for some in Batman v Superman, and if he knew Clark wasn’t human because of that failed experiment, then it would also explain how he knew Clark was Superman and why he wanted the… Read more »
