Reports are that Mark Gibbon, who has previously been involved in other Superman TV shows and movies, has been cast to play the role of General Zod in the Season 2 finale of “Supergirl”.
Sharp-eyed Superman fans will recognize Gibbon from the “Smallville” TV series, where he played a number of roles in four different episodes, and also “Man of Steel”, where he played an oil rig worker.
Zod will appear in the finale of the second season of “Supergirl”, which will also see the return of both Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant and Tyler Hoechlen as Superman.
This episode is schedule to air on The CW on Monday, May 22.
“You WILL bow before me, son of Jor-El! You WILL pay for the crimes of your father against Krypton, for robbing me off my rightful place as Krypton’s benefactor! You WILL BOW– for about 40 minutes. Then, I will forget you exist and turn my attention to your cousin for who I care nothing really and with whose immediate family I have no contention and I will frame the events of the entirety of the next year, in which you shall be mostly absent. And if I don’t have enough of a motive to go after her, I will find… Read more »
Looking forward to Mark Gibbon is returning to TV and seeing him as General Zod in the Supergirl season finale because I did grew watching Smallville in early day 2000.
I don’t mind some cross pollination in terms of Superman and Supergirl sharing rouges for instance it doesn’t bother me that Livewire or Silver Banshee in this continuity originate from the Supergirl side of things. Metallo’s origin/first appearence is borderline but I basically count it as shared even though it’s a little odd for me that he appears this late into Superman’s career. With Neutron last season I liked that they just let him be someone Superman has a history with and shows up in National. I really do hope they do the same with Zod rather than having this… Read more »
I really wouldn’t mind if the villains were just crossing over. It’d be kind of neat, like they did with Reactron last season. I can even forgive Livewire, in that she sort of fits the show’s original message. But Silver Banshee and especially Parasite (who not only appeared in Supergirl first, but was also very much killed by our hero) just annoy me, more so than when Smallville started rotating through Superman villains long before Superman even existed. And then there are things that I find downright insulting, like the Solar Flare aftermath last season, complete with a scene lifted… Read more »
Good casting. Though I have a certain portrayal in mind how Zod should be depicted. Not a straight out villain ala Terence Stamp but rather a Kryptonian soldier who is quite sympathetic yet doing all those terrible things for the sake of patriotism…Much in the lines of how Michael Shannon portrayed him or Ed Harris in the Rock.
Eh, I think Zod is fine as a straight up bad guy rather than the villain who just needs a hug.
Colour me unimpressed, not by the actor, but by the character. Maybe I’m just “Zod-ed” out. Who’s next for season 3, Braniac? Personally I just find it an unispiring character choice is all.
Smallville used about every angle from STM and STM2. Are they really going down that same road again? I mean Zod??? I like the show but is the creativity of it turning shallow? Lets just use what’s on the shelf without going to new places. I mean what else can be robbed from STM1-2 that we haven’t seen already?
Can’t blame anyone for being “Zoded-out”. Nor could I blame the average movie goer for thinking Luthor and Zod are the only two villains Superman has.
Love how Zack Snyder used actors from previous Superman shows/movies I wonder if we’ll see more in Justice League, wouldn’t it be awesome if Lynda Carter has a cameo in Wonder Woman or Justice League
