Superman fan Jason Thompson, who lives in Lincoln, Nebraska, had a tree in his front yard that was dying and needed to be cut down. Instead of removing it completely, he commissioned young UNL Architecture student David Huismann to carve a 7-foot Superman statue out of the tree.
“I knew even when I had to cut it down that I wanted something in the trunk of it so I had them eave like a 7 foot piece and I’ve always been a huge Superman fan and so I thought well what better than a Superman statue,” Thompson says.
“Well I said I could do it that’s for sure, I’ve never done a human figure before so the hardest part was getting the proportions right. But once I got that figured out it was just a bunch of carving a slashing away,” Huismann says.

i love it!
Excellent piece of art work! I wonder if they will add in the blue parts of his suit and the red for his boots. It looks really cool.
I think they are going for the old George Reeves color scheme from the old black and white days, of course I’m just speculating
Agreed it’s awesome
That is simply fantastic! It’s interesting that both Superman-fan Jason Thompson and the artistic, architecture student David Huismann happy and enthusiastic people. And that’s what is great about the character of Superman, he is a character of hope and brings out the positivity in people. And the people who like Superman in general are positive people. Anyway, great piece of artwork! That year of artistic endeavor paid off!
