“Krypton” Super Bowl Spot Features Superman’s Cape

A Super Bowl TV spot for the “Krypton” TV series sees Seg-El considering the famous red cape that his grandson will go on to wear.

What if Superman never existed? Set two generations before the destruction of Superman’s home planet, Krypton follows Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), the legendary Man of Steel’s grandfather, who is faced with a life and death conflict – save his home planet or let it be destroyed in order to restore the fate of his future grandson. With Krypton’s leadership in disarray and the House of El ostracized, Seg finds himself in a difficult position. He must redeem his family’s honor and protect the ones he loves while being challenged by familiar DC characters Brainiac (Blake Ritson) and Earthly time-traveler Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos).

The TV series is inspired by classic comic book stories including “All-Star Superman,” “Superman: The Animated Series,” and :Superman: Secret Origins”.

“Krypton” is produced by Warner Horizon Television. The pilot is written by David Goyer (Man of Steel) with Ian Goldberg (Once Upon A Time, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles). Goyer also acts as executive produce through his company Phantom Four with Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow), who serves as showrunner. Colm McCarthy (Peaky Blinders) directed the pilot.

The cast includes: Cameron Cuffe (The Halcyon) as Seg-El, Georgina Campbell (After Hours) as Lyta Zod, Ian McElhinney (Game of Thrones) as Val-El, Elliot Cowan (Da Vinci’s Demons) as Daron Vex, Ann Ogbomo (Wonder Woman) as Primus Alura Zod, Rasmus Hardiker (Your Highness) as Kem, Wallis Day (The Royals) as Nyssa Vex and Aaron Pierre (Britannia) as Dev-Em.

“Krypton” premieres March 21 on Syfy.

There may be more to the legend but I still want to see the legend.

Hate to state the obvious. That’s not what his cape looks like in MoS.

Was it ever actually confirmed that this is meant to be in continuity with MOS?

Since it’s concept I read it is a prequel to MOS.

Not sure how that works then because as you said cape is not the same. S shield style isn’t the same. Kryptonians are not wearing scaly skin suits. The little data module has the shield shape on it like the key in MOS but it’s clearly a crystal, and not that metallic liquid geo whatever tech that they had supposedly been using for generations. Clearly there’s MOS influence going on in some of the visual design but it doesn’t really seem to jibe as exactly the Krypton from MOS.

I seem to recall an interview with David Goyer confirming this series has no ties to the DCEU or to any other universe.
