“Krypton” Interview – Connecting Superman’s Past and Present

In an interview conducted during San Diego Comic-Con, Syfy sat down with “Krypton” TV series executive producers Cameron Welsh and Damian Kindler, along with the star of the show Cameron Cuffe, to discuss the premise of the show, what fans can expect, and which characters will appear during the first season.

Exec producer Cameron Welsh tells us the action kicks off with a conspiracy that starts on present-day Earth, involving time travelling to Krypton’s past to prevent the birth of Superman. Co-exec producer Damian Kindler teases heroes and villains from the DC Universe that “you would not expect to show up on Krypton, on Krypton.” And star Cameron Cuffe, who plays Seg-El, tells us about the daunting task of playing Superman’s grandaddy.

From Warner Horizon Television and DC Comics, “Krypton” takes place years before the Superman legend we know, when the House of El was shamed and ostracized. This drama follows the Man of Steel’s grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known.

“Krypton” is produced by Warner Horizon Television. The pilot is written by David Goyer (Man of Steel) with Ian Goldberg (Once Upon A Time, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles). Goyer also acts as executive produce through his company Phantom Four with Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow), who serves as showrunner. Colm McCarthy (Peaky Blinders) directed the pilot.

The cast includes: Cameron Cuffe (The Halcyon) as Seg-El, Georgina Campbell (After Hours) as Lyta Zod, Ian McElhinney (Game of Thrones) as Val-El, Elliot Cowan (Da Vinci’s Demons) as Daron Vex, Ann Ogbomo (Wonder Woman) as Primus Alura Zod, Rasmus Hardiker (Your Highness) as Kem, Wallis Day (The Royals) as Nyssa Vex and Aaron Pierre (Britannia) as Dev-Em.

“Krypton” will premiere in 2018 on Syfy.
