“Krypton” Casts Brainiac

Paula Malcomson (best known for her role in “Ray Donovan”) has been cast in the pivotal guest-starring role of Kal-El’s great-grandmother Charys, while Blake Ritson (Da Vinci’s Demons) will play the important role of Brainiac in the upcoming TV series “Krypton”.

According to Deadline.com, Malcomson will play Charys, the matriarch of House El. Charys helps her son Seg navigate the treacherous pitfalls of Kandor City, their Kryptonian home embattled with oppression and revolt. The role has been recast after the pilot.

Ritson will play Brainiac. A parasitic, hyper-advanced alien android of immense intelligence, Brainiac is one of Superman’s oldest and most dangerous foes.

As you’ll recall, “Krypton” is set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet. The show follows Seg-El, Superman’s grandfather (played by Cameron Cuffe) – whose House of El was ostracized and shamed. He fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.

“Krypton” is produced by Warner Horizon Television. The pilot is written by David Goyer (Man of Steel) with Ian Goldberg (Once Upon A Time, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles). Goyer also acts as executive produce through his company Phantom Four with Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow), who serves as showrunner. Colm McCarthy (Peaky Blinders) directed the pilot.

The cast includes: Cameron Cuffe (The Halcyon) as Seg-El, Georgina Campbell (After Hours) as Lyta Zod, Ian McElhinney (Game of Thrones) as Val-El, Elliot Cowan (Da Vinci’s Demons) as Daron Vex, Ann Ogbomo (Wonder Woman) as Primus Alura Zod, Rasmus Hardiker (Your Highness) as Kem, Wallis Day (The Royals) as Nyssa Vex and Aaron Pierre (Britannia) as Dev-Em.

“Krypton” will premiere in 2018 on Syfy.

How about we cast Brainiac in a movie instead?

Seconded. I’ve been waiting since the closing credits of Superman II in the friggin theater for Brainiac to be on the big screen and Hollywood can’t even get past Luthor and Zod when they’re doing Doomsday!

My thoughts exactly, Sundevil82. I would be so happy if we could get someone cast for Brainiac in a Man of Steel sequel.

If they make MOS 2, why not cast this guy for that movie as well? It would make sense. I agree with posters above that Hollywood needs to stop focusing on Lex Luthor and Zod too much.

The buzz seems to be that there’s going to be a Terminator type plot where Brainiac is effectively trying to erase Superman from history. So I’m guessing they do something to throw the entire origin story out of whack playing the “EVERYTHING YOU KNOW IS WRONG!” card and the there’s a big question mark on how or if Superman’s existence can be put back.

The implication of David Goyer destroying the Superman legend is not a good look.

I’m guessing this will probably lead to a mos sequel film in some way, and he might be in it if that’s the case.
