Kirk Alyn Honored on “Superman and Lois” Sound Stage

The CW production has honored Kirk Alyn by naming one of the sound stages for the “Superman & Lois” production
Kirk Stages after the Superman actor.

Elizabeth “Bitsie” Tulloch, who plays Lois Lane on the series, posted the following photo of the sign that adorns the Stage 2 door, with a photo of Kirk Alyn and the following information:

Kirk Alyn (October 8. 1910 – March 14, 1999) was the first actor to play the DC Comics character Superman in live-action for the 1948 movie serial “Superman” and its 1950 sequel “Atom Man vs. Superman”.

It is yet unconfirmed if other Superman actors are similarly honored on other stage doors of the studio.

Starring Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch in the title roles, the “Superman & Lois” TV series will premiere on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 on The CW.

Nice! It will be interesting to see how much previous versions of Superman inform the show’s portrayal.

An excellent decision as in one of the recent pictures of Tyler Hoechlin, I got a strong Kirk Allyn vibe. Let’s hope another one gets George Reeves’ name on it.

That’s very classy of them to do that. 🙂 I always felt that Kirk doesn’t get the full recognition of being the first onscreen Superman actor. I’ve heard on many occasions people say George Reeves was the first actor to play the role. This is untrue. Don’t get me wrong, I like George’s version of Superman. I have seen the entire George Reeves Superman series with much enjoyment. But to say that he was the first Superman actor is inaccurate. And I feel that it takes away from Kirk’s stellar performance by not giving him the credit he deserves for… Read more »

Supposedly, Kirk Alyn was twice offered the opportunity to carry on with Superman into the television series; first he was offered the part before production began, so he could have been in on the ground floor so to speak. And then he was either asked to step in mid-series when George Reeves wanted to just be done with it, or he was asked to to replace George Reeves after the latter’s death, as the producers were exploring options for keeping the show going (including a Jimmy Olsen-centered show with stock footage). But Alyn turned them down at every opportunity.

Yeah I also heard about him being ask to return to the role before production started. I didn’t know about him being asked to replace Reeves though. It was nice to see that he made a cameo appearance in Superman the movie with Noel Neill both as Lois’s parents for the train scene.
