June 23, 2016: Melissa Benoist Wins Saturn Award

160622-MelissaSaturnAwardThe Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films held their 42nd Annual Saturn Awards last night, and Melissa Benoist was the recipient of the special Breakthrough Performance Award!

The Breakthrough Performance Award is an honor embracing new talent and this year’s recipient is actor Melissa Benoist. She is currently the star of the popular CBS series, Supergirl. Some of her earlier work includes a role in Glee and in the film Whiplash. She is one of this generation’s brightest talents. She is a positive role model to young kids with her work on the successful series, Supergirl.

We await to hear word if “Supergirl” was successful in other categories, with the series also having been nominated for Best Superhero Adaptation TV Series, alongside competitors “Arrow”, “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow”, “The Flash”, “Gotham”, “Marvel’s Agent Carter” and “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD”.

Melissa Benoist was also nominated for Best TV Actress, with Calista Flockhart nominated in the category of Best Supporting TV Actress, while Laura Benanti was up for Best Guest Performance on TV.
