July 30, 2016: Iconic Moment Filmed on “Supergirl” Set

An iconic Superman moment was filmed during this weekend’s shoot in Vancouver for the premiere of Season 2 of the “Supergirl” TV series, with Tyler Hoechlin photographed ripping open his shirt as Clark Kent to reveal the Superman costume beneath.

Only a few days have gone by and I’m starting to really like this Superman.

I agree, although I think he needs the proper costume with red trunks, I already like this Superman better than Snyder’s!

Two movies, and Snyder has given us nothing that screams classic Superman. This scene alone — with the proper “S” shield peaking through that I’m so glad the TV people have given him — is the most Superman-like thing I’ve seen in live action in a longtime! AND it shows that they’ll be keeping the secret identity! Great news!

Fingers crossed for a new Superman TV series! Tyler Hoechlin is going to be a great Superman!

I cannot wait for this moment, I am so excited for this version of Superman. Everything I see just gets me more excited.

Hey, Zack, I liked both your movies dude. But stuff like this? We kinda need stuff like this. They’re as iconic as the /S/. TV is beating you to the punch.

On another note, his Clark looks good, but I’ll admit I can’t not nitpick at how much bigger Jimmy is than he is.

Gotta agree, BvS lacked this awesome & classic scene. If I had to fault Snyder for anything it’s for refusing to hit this classic beat. Say what you like about SR but it had at least 2 of these moments.

Tyler looks great (even better without the dodgy cape) but Jimmy being taller than Superman though? Someone didn’t think that one through.

SR’s scene in the elevator is definitely a great moment. However I felt cheated in the first change scene. But yeah Zack hasn’t given us squat when it comes to classic Superman visuals. My prediction is JL is Zack’s last DC film and the new Superman movie (hoping) will give us some more of this.

The first moment in SR was oddly edited & kinda fluffed that moment but I think that was because they rewrote it after it was filmed, what should have happened was Clark ripped his shirt open with no suit on at all underneath, before going back to the planet to pick it up.

I loved BvS but sometimes you gotta give the people what they want.

Plus, SR is the only film (so far) to have an actual on-screen reference to the character’s first published appearance.

BvS had a cynical “This isn’t 1938”. Not sure if that counts.

Actually Lana, the bar scene in Man of Steel can also be viewed as an on-screen reference to that very same appearance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDVGuZ45OrQ

I don’t like the costume 100%, but I’m 100% excited to see this moment! Looks like they have the essence of Superman down!

I can’t believe we live in a world where Jimmy Olsen is taller than Superman. SMDH

Well, consider this: Jimmy Olsen has been around for over 70 years. What has he been? Primarily, a young, freckle-faced, red-headed, cub reporter/photographer for the Daily Planet. “Supergirl” finally gets him out of the Planet and into the real world – as CatCo’s art director. Plus, he gets to use his formal name for the first time.

Jimmy Olsen all grown up. What’s wrong with that?

Are you talking about how most people see jimmy or how he’s been portrayed in comics..cause he’s been much more than that for many years….

It’s nothing to do with Jimmy all grown up, but Jimmy being half a foot taller and twice as muscular as Superman is a bit ridiculous

Superman looks to be about as old as Supergirl. Shouldn’t he be as old as Hank Henshaw or Alex’s father?

I mean I know this is the CW and we need supermodels on our shows, but this just doesn’t make sense to me. If we are going by the same continuity and Superman has been on Earth a lot longer than Kara, he should be way older. He looks like her slightly older brother here.

Maybe this is a continuity similar to a lot of the comics, where he can live for centuries?

That is a possibilty, and if that is the case I guess I could buy it. It would be stretching my suspension of disbelief a bit (even if it is the case I still think he should look a little older) but fine, I’ll go with it. Do I think CW will go that route where he can live for centuries? I doubt it. I just hope there is a good explanation for how young he looks or it is addressed in some way.

I don’t see the problem. In the comics, Kara is usually a teenager, but in the show she’s clearly in her early-to-mid 20s. Besides, this version didn’t get stuck in suspended animation and she was already around 8-10 when she was rocketed off of Krypton, whereas Kal was just a baby at the same time. On second though, though, you’re right; it’s the show’s fault. Kara clearly arrives on Earth as a child and Superman’s already out and about, even though he really shouldn’t be, unless Kara left Krypton after it exploded Supergirl-movie-kinda, but unless they explain this in the… Read more »

I’m not saying that it is really a problem, it’s just that it is bugging me.I’m sure I’ll get used to it and he might even do a good job as Superman (I know nothing of this actor). You do make a good point though. They could do what they did with Barry Allen on Arrow and make a new show with this Superman.

That sounded like one of those clickbait anti-aging ads you see on-line.

(Note: in clickbait journalism, reason #9 is never as shocking as they claim)

Oh my gosh. You know. I’ve always been caught up with the question “How does Clark keep all of that cape so neatly tucked under his regular clothes?”. For any version of superman.

This is the first time in my life I have ever thought about the boots issue. Well crap. I guess I have a new level of suspension of disbelief I’ve gotta work on lol.

Maybe that’s why MOS or BvS has never been keen on the shirt rip change. Not practical in their eyes.

Haha, the thought never came to me either until seeing this new Superman’s chunky boots. But now that I think about it, it only becomes a problem if we assume that Superman is indeed wearing his boots under civilian clothing, and no suspension of disbelief would be needed if they only show the shirt rip on screen and leave the rest to our imagination, i.e. putting his boots on after undressing.

I disagree. I think Jimmy being just a big or bigger than Clark is perfectly fine. I know the show is pretty much hoping you think his looks are natural, but I like to think he has to work at it at least a little bit. If your personal best friend, your idol, is Superman… you really mean to tell me you’d never work out at all just for self esteem? Personally, I know I would. If for nothing else than just to rub it in his face when the ladies pay more attention to me than him when out… Read more »

I totally disagree with your statement on Jimmy being bigger and taller than Superman is okay. It’s bad enough Snyder has a Batman that is bigger than Superman well at least Henry’s buff. What is it with Warner Bros? It seems everyone at WB is trying to dumb down on the Man of Steel. At least Christopher Reeve and Tom Welling set the standard on how Superman should really look like Tall, Broad, a runway model, gorgeous smile….the way Superman should be. Tyler might be good looking but he pale in comparison with Reeve and Welling. Tyler is a bad… Read more »
